TCSJOHNHUXLEY like many companies across the UK had built up a stock pile of de-commissioned laptops which were collecting dust in a store room. Unsure what to do with the old IT equipment an email from the Hatua Likoni charity in August of 2016 could not have come at a better time.

Hatua Likoni is a community NGO which is working to promote education and employment among the youth in Likoni, Kenya.

Likoni is home to over 200,000 residents who are amongst the poorest in the city of Mombassa, with 45% living below the poverty line. Primary education in Kenya is free but with secondary and further education costing from $250 – $750 per year less than half of children in Likoni progress beyond primary level. The Hatua Likoni charity is working to change this.

Currently providing scholarships to around 250 of the poorest and most gifted students in Likoni, with around 150 in secondary education and 100 in college or university, the charity has a continual need for laptops to help support their students.

TCSJOHNHUXLEY donated a total of 23 laptops and 4 Desktop PC’s to the charity which are now being used by the scholarship students to aid them in their studies.

Tristan Sjoberg, Executive Chairman, TCSJOHNHUXLEY said “We are pleased that we were able to support such a fantastic cause through the donation of our old company laptops and PC’s. It’s great to see the Hatua Likoni scholarship students benefiting from the donation and the hard work of the charity team.”
